- Cold Checking
- Small, square-like pattern that can appear in a painted surface when exposed to excessive cold.
- Cold Chisel
- A metal cutting chisel, which incorporates a striking surface and handle with the shank of the chisel. The length of the chisel is wedge shaped for about a third of the way, tapering down to a hardened cutting edge. Hammers are used to strike a cold chisel.
- Cold Cracking
- Paint cracks due to exposure to excessive cold.
- Cold Drawn
- Metal that is formed by being drawn through dies without adding heat.
- Cold Forming
- Shaping metal without applying heat.
- Cold Joint
- Also called a cold solder joint.
- Concrete or mortar joint with concrete or mortar placed against concrete or mortar that has already set.
- Solder joint where the solder hasn't fused to the base metal due to the fact that the base metal was not hot enough or dirty.
- Cold Process Roofing
- Asphalt roof covering, which is semi flexible and applied with roofing cement.
- Cold Rolled
- Rolling metal plates without applying heat.
- Cold Solder Joint
- Also called a cold joint.
- Concrete or mortar joint with concrete or mortar placed against concrete or mortar that has already set.
- Solder joint where the solder hasn't fused to the base metal due to the fact that the base metal was not hot enough or dirty.
- Cold Steam Cleaning
- Mixture of pressurized steam and water for cleaning.
- Cold Water Paint
- Sealer coat, for plaster or other masonry, which is made of casein or glue dissolved in water.
- Cold Weather Concrete Application
- Pouring concrete, with special admixtures to keep from freezing, when the temperature is below freezing.
- Cold Weld
- Fusion of materials by use of a welding process of pressure at room temperature.
- Collar

- A ring or flange, as on rods or pipes, to prevent sideward motion or to connect parts.
- Reinforcement around the outer part of an item.
- Collar Beam
- Structural element, consisting of a horizontal beam connecting together two rafters supporting the roof. The collar beam is at a point substantially higher, approximately one foot, than the wall plate connecting the rafters, thus providing more head room than a conventional truss where the horizontal connecting beam is at the level of the wall plate. Tie beams are connected at the lower ends of the rafters.
- Collar Joint
- A long, vertical mortar joint which is between masonry wythes; joint between back-to-back bricks.
- Collar Tie
- Structural element, consisting of a horizontal beam connecting together two rafters supporting the roof. Tie beams are connected at the lower ends of the rafters, as opposed to collar beams, which are connected approximately one foot above the wall plates.
- Collateral

- Property that must be pledged for a loan and which may be seized if the borrower defaults.
- Accompanying or existing in a subordinate, corroborative, or indirect relationship.
- Side by side or parallel in time, rank, importance, etc.

- Collateral Loan
- Loan secured by the pledge of specific collateral such a borrowing $20,000 against a savings account of $50,000.
- Collateral Security
- Additional security supplied by borrower to obtain a loan.
- Collection
- Series of steps by a lender taken to bring delinquent mortgage current.
- Collector, Runway
- Electrical contact that moves with a crane bridge for the purpose of transmitting electrical power from the electrical busway to the bridge and then on to the motor.
- Collector, Solar
- Hot water heating system using a heat exchanger that uses absorbed heat from the sun to heat up fluid, such as water. Copper tubing, painted black, is wound back and forth in a flat glass box, insulated on the bottom and sides, which is mount facing the sun to absorb the heat. The water is pumped to circulate through the tubing, heating as it passes through the glass box. Heated water is stored in an insulated tank for household use and black plastic collectors are used for heating water for swimming pools and hot tubs. Using solar energy for heating conserves other fuels.
- Collector Trolley
- Electrical contact that moves with a crane trolley for the purpose of transmitting electrical power from the electrical busway to the trolley and then on to the motor.
- Collet

- A chuck with a tapered end used for gripping circular pieces turned on a lathe.
- Compression tightened split holder for drill bits, shafts, etc.
- A metal band or ring.
- Colloid
- A solid, liquid or gaseous substance consisting of very small, insoluble, non-diffusible particles that remain in a surrounding solid, liquid or gaseous medium of different matter.
- Collusion
- Action by two or more people to undertake illegal actions or commit fraud.
- Colonial Architecture
- Traditional style of housing borrowed from the British Georgian architecture during the American Colonial period and is usually two stories with emphasis on window details and shutters.
- Colonial Texture
- Brush bristle created semi-circular swirls in plaster or stucco.
- Colonnade
- Grouping of several columns arranged in intervals, which support an architectural overhang, usually a roof.
- Color
- Any coloring matter, dye, pigment or paint. The primary colors are red, yellow and blue which when mixed in various combinations produce the secondary colors. Black, white and gray are often referred to as colors although black is cause by the complete absorption of light rays and white by the reflection of all the rays that produce color and gray by an imperfect absorption of all these rays.
- Color Coding
- Identification of various items by using colors for marking purposes.
- Color Fast
- Color that does not fade.
- Color of Title
- Unclear indications of ownership rights, which supplement a claim to title of property but does not actually establish it.
- Column
- Slender upright structure consisting of a base, a round or square shaft, and a capital.
- Column Anchor
- Metal support, which attaches the base of a column to a footing.
- Column Clamp
- Fastener, also called a column form clamp, which secures column forms together to hold against the pressure of wet concrete being poured into the forms.
- Column Footing
- Support base of a load-bearing column, with the footing usually made of reinforced concrete.
- Column Form
- Structure, erected to hold wet cement in the form of a column, until the concrete has hardened.
- Column Reinforcement
- To prevent lateral expansion of a column, reinforced steel can be added.
